I stalled before i bought this little TV. I really didn't want to pay full price for it but I really wanted it so I bought it. What a great little TV. Great picture, great reception, sound is expectable. One thing on the reception.. I never used the included antenna. I purchased a separate one named PowerHD-100. Its a little portable sturdy pop up hdtv antenna. Bought it here on Amazon for 29.99. I receive all the local channels except one.
Sound out of the speakers is a bit tinny but you can hear everything really well. If you use a external speaker with some base the sound would be perfect. I really like this TV. I have purchased other small tv's and have returned them all. This one is the best...

This is a great multitask player. DVDs, CDs, MP3s, JPGs, and it even plays Divx AVI files you may have made. It comes with a mini antanea, Car power adapter, and home power adapter, 3 hour battery. Great package deal. The Tuner for HDTV requires an antanea. You may not get great reception if in the country. But that is the only neagative I could think of. Otherwise it is a great buy!
I bought this mainly as a source of information if the power goes out. The antenna it came with only picks up a couple of channels; but if I attach it to my outside antenna, it does pick up all the local channels. What I really enjoy is the dvd player. It works perfectly and I can carry my little tv around and enjoy watching a movie in an area that was not previously accessible. I get about 3 hours playtime out of this tv before the battery needs to be recharged. If I have stopped watching a dvd in the middle of same and turned off the machine, or recharged the machine, the dvd will start up in the spot I had stopped watching.
I was fortunate to purchase the item when the price was reduced. I am very satisfied with the product. With the antenna provided with the DVD/TV, we can get 7 channels including a weather channel. The TV input is very clear and bright. We charged the battery as suggested with the manual (6 hours) and when we turned on the TV, the programs booted up quickly. The menu is easy to follow and is easy to operate. The DVD plays very nicely with bright color and sound. We recently had a storm that put our DirectTV down for for a while and was able to watch TV and play a DVD. I would recommend the Philips Portable DVD/TV and give it high marks.
First, The product; The TV does everything it's supposed to do, and it does it perfectly. I was slightly disappointed with the relatively small size of the screen, being accustomed to much larger screens here at home. But even so, the quality of the video is excellent. Kudos to Philips once again for a well designed product. I chose this unit after reading reviews on competitive models, all of which were mostly negative. The supplied antenna is presently being used with an under-the-counter TV I had previously purchased for my wife, and which so far had only been used as a DVD player because most available antennas were either too large physically,or not powerful enough to pick up any decent reception. As an electronics tech, I'm going to assume that Philips designed this tiny antenna based on the frequency range in which it will work (UHF) rather than other less important features. I had even tried an amplified antenna without satisfactory results. When used with the PET729, The reception is very good in most areas of the house, and adequate in others.
Now, as for Amazon itself, the delivery time was excellent, but I was disappointed when I opened the package, which was touted as being NEW, and discovered that the instruction manual had been perused by someone and they had gone as far as writing some notes in it. This put me in doubt as to whether the unit actually was new, but I decided to finish opening the package and testing the TV before returning it to Amazon. Well, once I had plugged everything in and inspected all the components, the TV worked so well, and everything else appeared to be in Mint condition, I decided to keep this one, rather than send it back and having it replaced with a unit that did not work as well. Overall, I'm very pleased with my purchase.
